When to go custom (and when not to)
Pre-made gift boxes are faster and usually cheaper. But sometimes the recipient has very specific tastes, the occasion is sensitive (apology gift, big-deal client), or you want to layer in brand or theme. That's when custom wins.
Step 1: Define your recipient
Three questions:
- Sweet, salty, or both?
- Any dietary needs? (No nuts, no chocolate, low-sugar, etc.)
- What's their favorite brand? (Trust us — pick a snack they're loyal to and add it.)
Step 2: Pick a theme
Common ones that work:
- Movie night — popcorn, candy bars, soda
- Energy boost — energy drinks, protein bars, jerky
- Throwback — old-school favorites like Snickers, Twix, Coca-Cola
- Premium — king-size bars, gourmet popcorn, premium jerky
Step 3: Choose 6-10 items
Aim for variety. A good ratio: 2 chocolate, 2 salty, 1 cookie or popcorn, 1-2 drinks, 1 wildcard (jerky, protein bar, gum).

Step 4: Packaging matters
A solid box is the difference between a gift and a grocery bag. Choose:
- A branded gift box (most online sellers include this)
- Tissue paper or crinkle filler
- A clear cellophane wrap if you want a polished look
Step 5: Add a personal touch
The 30-second move that makes the biggest difference: a handwritten note. Even a one-liner. If you're gifting on behalf of a company, include a branded sticker or business card.
